Creating a self-evaluation tool for the induction of NQTs

Our objective is to build a body of evidence that enables us to specify the requirements for a self-evaluation tool - online or paper-based (or both). If you would like some additional background to the project, please visit SurveyDigital's site here

Following this introduction, you will find a series of posts, each of which addresses a specific question relating to the use of self-evaluation tools for induction. Please add your comments, views, links to documents or web pages and any other evidence or opinion that you would like to bring, in any of the topics where you have experience.

Also, don't forget to check others' comments and enter into the discussion. Thank you!

  1. I hope this will provide detailed support for NQTs as they plan their route through the MTL.

  2. What kind of support would you look for? As MTL rolls out, the assessment will go beyond the Core Standards, comprising a value-add of Masters skills on top. An MTL NQT (if they are in parallel) would need to provide evidence of working "in a masterly way" on top of meeting core standards.

  3. For our final year Primary BEd students we currently encourage them to use a SWOT analysis to help them to contextualise. When applying for post they identify the S&W of the school and match these to their own (perceived and real) S&W in order for them to identify opportunities for them the both make a contribution to the school and to learn from it. The 'threats' element is about them forward planning and, in effect' performing a risk assessment of the role they are applying for. Our current version of the MA Education (MTL) is about scaffolding them through the early stages of the decision making within their career - giving them the research skilss/processes to enable them to make confident decisions about their class and their school.
